Our Fourth Hawaiian Port Niwiliwili, Kauai

Kauai was where Mike and Janet spent their honeymoon. so we felt confident in renting a car.  Our only "must see" was the "Grand Canyon of Hawaii" as Mark Twain called Waimea Canyon.

The canyon is only a 25 minute drive from the airport where we rented the car

You approach the canyon from the south and it builds gradually as you go north

Half way up the canyon

Nearing the peak viewing area

At the overlook at the "Prime" viewing location

TheWaipo'o Falls

A short distance north yet was my favorite view

Coming down from the overlook to the parking lot

These two girls were out on a bluff next to the overlook and took turns taking photos of each other!

The road back down offers stunning views of the ocean to the south

We drove down the coast to Kaulala Point and the Spouting Horn blowhole.  It was pretty calm day so we felt good to get a couple of 10-15 foot spouts

Then back to Kukui'ula Village and Bubba Burgers!

After lunch, Theresa homes right in on the flowers!

The drive north again takes us up a scenic road

And we eventually end up at Wailua River State Park and the Opaeka'a Falls

These falls are very popular and parking was at a premium!

These pulloffs are home to dozens of chickens! This takes "Free Range" to a whole new height!

The photog!

Crossing the road led us to an overlook of the Wailua River - used by many to visit the Fern Grotto

Looking east on the River (toward the ocean)

At one of the pulloffs was another heiau - as always with a detailed description

The "Sleeping Giant" rock formation

The view from our dining room table was stunning!

Our table steward surprised us with a folded frog - that actually jumps!

At the show that evening, the singer got Bob up on stage to be part of a trio to sing back up to "Cab Driver."  Bob loved the way he sucked him in:  "What's your name sir?"  "Bob"
"Hold your right hand up Bob - higher."
"Now, I need a volunteer - thank you Bob!"
There is a video and we're trying to figure out how to upload it!  Stay tuned!

Tomorrow -  Back to the Big Island only this time Kona on the leeward shore. Hopefully not as wet as Hilo!
