On Our Way To Hawaii!!!

Seems like a long time ago that we left Indiana, but here we are, on the way!
The voyage over was a great combination of activities, entertainment, and just goofing off!
Each day, the ship produced a document detailing all of the events happening on board.
Mike and Bob liked the cooking demonstrations while Theresa gravitated to the Digital Lab to learn about how to best use Windows 10 and some other software.

There were four Hawaiian Ambassadors aboard to teach us hula, ukulele, Hawaiian words, and lei making (from real fresh flowers!)

Those who learned the hula and ukulele were given a chance to present their skill to the ship's audience! (Bob took ukulele but did not play on stage)

At breakfast one day, the ship's captain was looking for a place to sit, so Mike suggested he join us! Much to our amazement and joy, he did!  He ate 7 hard boiled eggs, 5 whites only. Might be why he is so slender!

The highsopt of afternoons at sea was the matinee performance in the Lincoln Center. These five extremely talented musicians enthralled us each day at 2 and 7PM with piano quintet music.  The 2 PM performances were extremely popular and by the end of the cruise, one of us would try to be there by noon to secure spots!  The 7 PM however was lightly attended and we were able to come from dinner at 6:45 and get good seats.

Another nightly ritual was "Sip and Savor" in the Pinnacle Bar. Varunee was gracious and attentive (and would bring us extra hors d' oeuvres!).  We could get a glass of a featured white or red wine for $2 off and in addition receive an appetizer from the Pinnacle Grill!

Mike & Bob dressed for Gala Night at sip-n savor. We'd drink one glass at sip-n-savor then take the other into the dining room (cheaper than getting a glass in the dining room!)

Our table was by a window so each evening we were treated to a beautiful sunset

One of our greatest treats was an invitation to Indonesian luncheon! This is the table steward who worked immediately adjacent to our table and his wife (we think).  He dressed in traditional Indonesian fine wear!

The main course was actually eight different morsels as described in the menu below.

And of course, Holland America is famous for always having fresh flowers throughout the ship - this array is just outside the Lincoln Center Stage

This is in the main dining room

The trip was made much more enjoyable by the presence of our very good friends Mike and Janet Ewing!

We donned our hand made leis for Gala Night

Even the towel animal got in the aloha spirit!

Each day the EXC Director gave a talk about the upcoming ports we would visit.  They were very informative and weren't used to "push" shore excursions.

  Tomorrow - Honolulu!
