Getting Ready! June 6-7, 2020
While aboard another cruise in October 2019, we booked a 16 day cruise from San Diego to Ft. Lauderdale.
Theresa and I drove to Ft Lauderdale and parked the car.
Boarded a flight to San Diego next day and met up with friends in Little Italy
We met life long friends Mike and Janet Ewing as well as Patricia Halligan, one of Theresa's grade school friends from St. Mary's in Greensburg, IN and had a nip in the hotel bar. |
We had earlier asked a couple of flight attendants in the hotel lobby for their favorite place to eat in Little Italy. They suggested Prep Kitchen. We had missed this very nice restaurant because it is on the second floor above a gelateria! |
A major renovation was just beginning however and we ended up in the fellowship hall for Mass! |
Following Mass and checkout, we boarded the ship - MS Masadam, the ship that would take us through the Panamal Canal! On the way out of port, we passed by USS Midway, sister ship of the USS FDR, the ship I served on for two years. |
The San Diego harbor with the iconic sweeping bridge that joins Coronado with San Diego |
One of the Nimitz class carriers - you can just make out her silhouette in the dusk |
Point Loma - the place where Spanis explorers first came ashore in California. |
