We had really enjoyed the tours in Cabo San Lucas and Mazatlan. We chose the "Viva Tequilla" tour in Puerta Vallarta simply because is sounded like a good idea! Little did we know this would become our favorite!
We were a little surprised to see a USCG cutter in port! |
Once again, our balcony provided great views as we entered port . . . |
including the Walmart and Sam's Club across the road! |
The buses await the onslaught! |
A mariachi band to welcome us! |
And pose with the pretty girls! |
As in Mazatlan, we were treated with some amazing sculptures |
some pretty weird! |
A boardwalk runs for a long way - sometimes using bridges like this one |
We stopped at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church |
We felt very awkward in that mass was due to start is less than 10 minutes and the church was packed! |
We did our best to be unobtrusive - using telephoto lenses and all, but still, we felt very awkward! |
12th Station |
A depiction of the Trinity |
The annunciation |
A unique sculpture of the Holy Family in everyday life! |
Finally, the main event! |
We entered this theater for "Tequila School!" |
We were guided through the displays by this young woman |
We learned about how various additives can change the character of the tequila |
We were challenged to sniff the aroma from a bottle then compare it with what is revealed in the drawer |
We were reminded that this was a dangerous business for many years |
Theresa and Janet taking a cut at identifying smells |
We were invited to taste as the tasters do,by withdrawing a long handled scoop and pouring the contents into a glass. |
She did much better than I |
So did Mike |
We then moved to the theater where we were given a primer on how to taste tequila |
We were treated to a short film about the agave plant and how it is harvested |
We even received a short message from this goddess! |
We were each given a try of tasting cups filled 1/3 with three different tequilas |
We'd seen these when we first came in and wondered - they are made to be held by the drink holders on the theater seats |
We were later treated to dirty Margaritas! |
But first, back to the theater, we watched as two very talented dancers depicted the legend of tequila |
When we booked this, they'd promised Mariachi music and I thought :Sure - They'll have a guitar, trumpet and violin" but they came out with a full orchestra! |
We were then regaled by a 10-12 person dance troupe that were wonderful! |
yes, they caught him! |
As though that wasn't enough, we were treated to rope dancing (ala Gene Autry) |
After the show, the entire cast greeted us as we exited |
including our driver who was also one of the dancers |
This man just patiently made his craft - painted tiles - in the lobby |
Again, lunch on the beach (its a tough life!) |
Enchiladas with mole' sauce |
Our restaurant is behind all of those umbrellas |
we snagged four chairs right on the beach and with enough shade for Janet and Theresa |
This young lady was posing nearby for her boyfriend |
These two women were in our group - they work in the ship's front office and we saw them whenever we had a question |
We didn't get in the water but used our beach towels for sun protection! |
One last selfie before we go to catch our bus |
Again, fancy lamp-stands! |
Back at the ship, we took a short stroll down to another beach |
We saw this Tee shirt and thought it was hilarious |
We never saw this "Pirate Ship" away from the pier (of course we were gone much of the time!) I think they do cruise in the bay. |
A selfie before boarding Oosterdam |
Majestic looking ship! |
Our view from our dining table |
We pulled out late at night - this shot from our balcony |
Our final port of our first segment of the cruise.
Coming - A day at sea then a day in San Diego
