Entering Sydney In Style!

Entering Sydney in Style  - Oct 17

Our tour books all agreed that the best way to enter Sydney was by ship!
We were up early for the entry into Sydney!
In spite of a very strong cross wind, we staked out a spot up high and forward - just above the starboard side bridge wing.

We had a great place to watch while the pilot boat met Spirit. They approached the ship along the port (windward) side of the ship, crossed in the ships wake, and came alongside the starboard side, in the lee of the ship. A very brave pilot crosses over on a "Jacob's ladder"

Two different news helicopters buzzed the ship for almost an hour as we entered harbor. We did not see any of the TV news clips, but Carnival clearly had pulled out the stops in the PR efforts!

We were led into port by a fire boat with all pumps and water cannons going full blast! It was a sunny day so rainbows were frequent - - and beautiful!

In this photo, we are near our berth in the Circular Quay (pronounced "key") which is just past the famous Sydney Opera House on the left but just before the Sydney bridge

As we approached the International Cruise Ship Terminal, we laughed at this sign!

This view gives a good look at where we docked relative to the Sydney Bridge.

As we left the Terminal on the way to the airport, we noticed these school children on some sort of an historic tour.

From here, we took a Carnival Transfer Bus to the airport for a direct flight to Cairns in Far North Queensland.

Tomorrow - Cairns!
