Panama Canal Cruise - Getting Ready! June 6-7, 2020

Panama Canal Cruise
Getting Ready! June 6-7, 2020

While aboard another cruise in October 2019, we booked a 16 day cruise from San Diego to Ft. Lauderdale.
Theresa and I drove to Ft Lauderdale and parked the car.
Boarded a flight to San Diego next day and met up with friends in Little Italy
We met life long friends Mike and Janet Ewing as well as Patricia Halligan, one of Theresa's grade school friends from  St. Mary's in Greensburg, IN and had a nip in the hotel bar.
We had earlier asked a couple of flight attendants in the hotel lobby for their favorite place to eat in Little Italy. They suggested Prep Kitchen. We had missed this very nice restaurant because it is on the second floor above a gelateria!

It was fairly early (although our bodies were telling us differently!) so we settled in the bar. We decided to just nosh on appetizers. We had grilled Brussels sprouts and a few others but the Kobe sliders were incredible (I had a second!)

Next morning, we walked the three blocks to Our Lady of the Rosary.   Theresa and I had discovered this wonderful church when we were in San Diego for the Three Sisters Reunion (with the FDR veterans joining Midway and Coral Sea sailors).

A major renovation was just beginning however and we ended up in the fellowship hall for Mass!
Following Mass and checkout, we boarded the ship - MS Masadam, the ship that would take us through the Panamal Canal! On the way out of port, we passed by USS Midway, sister ship of the USS FDR, the ship I served on for two years.
