A Trip to the 50th State in Our 50th Year - On The Road South

A Trip to the 50th State in Our 50th Year
Episode 1 - On The Road South!
We decided that the best way to celebrate 50 years of marriage was a trip to Hawaii, via San Antonio, Tucson, Phoenix, and a few other places along the way!

When I sat down, I realized we haven't blogged since our trip to Ireland! I have to relearn how to do it! Bear with us!

For those who are new to our blog, we do it to share our travel experiences with our friends and family, but also to allow us to go back years from now to refresh our memories.
I have already typed more words than I normally do on our blog - I like to let the photos do the talking with just enough captions to tell the story.
One change we made this year in our travel method was to try our best to find a daily mass each day. As a consequence, you'll see a lot of church stuff, but enough other stuff to hopefully keep your attention.

Anyway, we're on our way to San Diego, by car!

We left Greenwood December 26. It was cold but not the bitter cold that was coming.  But the cold weather dogged us for over a week!

Our plan was to stop for an overnight just west of Mmephis, but we made good time and still felt good, so we pressed on to Little Rock. Using the cell phones (aren't they amazing!) we found a La Quinta downtown (best rate in Metro area!) and less than a mile from St Edward Catholic Church, which just happened to have a morning mass.

The interior of this church is spectacular and mass was lovely, although in Spanish (we prefer English but our cell phones have an app for bilingual missal!)

Our favorite sculpture has always been Michelangelo's Pieta and we are partial to them all. This one is similar to Michelangelo's but unique.

After mass and a nice breakfast back at the hotel, we got on the road with the idea we'd stop in Dallas. But, since we started 80 miles farther than we'd planned, and hit no snags, we pressed on to Waco (about an hour south of Dallas). Similarly, we found St Louis Catholic Church in Waco and enjoyed a fine mass.

the interior is more modern but still elegant and beautiful!

But what else is in Waco? Baylor!

Baylor is a Christian University and the campus is gorgeous!

This beauty is the Science Building

Just a stone's throw from Baylor is the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame and Museum!

Our plans did not include time to spend and hour or two here, but it's on our radar for a future trip!

"They only sent One Ranger to quell a riot?"                   "Well, you've only got one riot, don't you?"
Tomorrow - San Antonio for three whole days!
